Who part-time is for

The part-time program is designed for students who are excited by our mastery-based, project-centered approach but who do not want or need a full-time school replacement. This might include students enrolled in a local high school, homeschoolers building a custom pathway, or students who want to accelerate in specific areas while keeping their current commitments.

Student planning and scoping a project

Project-Based Learning

Part-time students participate in the same project cycle as full-time students: proposing meaningful projects, doing deep work, creating tangible artifacts, and reflecting on their learning.

Student attending classes

Classes

Part-time students can sign up for up to two classes from our core curriculum each term. Classes are designed to support project based learning, and range from philosophy and literature to computer science and engineering.

Student working on dual enrollment coursework

Dual enrollment focus

Many part-time students use Barefoot as a home base for dual enrollment with Arizona State University and The University of Alabama. We help students choose courses, plan a sustainable workload, and connect their college classes to their project work and long-term goals.

Due to our partnership with ASU, students can gain college credit at a significantly reduced rate.

Mentor meeting with a student online

Mentorship and accountability

Part-time students meet regularly 1:1 with a mentor to set goals, structure their weeks, and stay accountable to their project and dual enrollment commitments. Together, they design a schedule that fits around the student’s existing school or activities while still moving steadily toward mastery and college readiness.

What Part-Time Students Do

The part-time pathway offers a clear structure for ambitious, self-directed learners who want rigorous work without a full-time schedule change.

Flexible weekly schedule

Part-time students concentrate their Barefoot hours on focused project blocks and dual enrollment study sessions, scheduled around their existing school or family routines.

Project coaching

Students receive guidance on designing ambitious projects, breaking them into realistic steps, and documenting their learning so that it can be recognized on transcripts, applications, and portfolios.

College credit & readiness

With support, students work toward college credit through ASU and UA courses while learning how to manage deadlines, communicate with professors, and study at a university level.

Community, on your terms

Part-time students attend up to two classes each term, and can connect with peers through shared projects, optional events, and academic enrichment activities.

High School Transcript and Portfolio

Students receive a high school transcript and develop a portfolio that demonstrates their learning, interests, and achievements.
