What Barefoot Technology Academy Offers

Gifted and neurodivergent teens learning

Who it's for

We're an intentionally small, fully virtual, full-time high school for students who are bored, under-challenged, or misunderstood in traditional classrooms. Students will thrive here if they want to dive deeply into things that interest them, make friends from around the world, and crave depth, autonomy, and real challenge.

Project-based learning in action

How students learn

We are a project-based, mastery-focused school grounded in deep exploration of STEM, humanities and real world impact, empowering students to go well beyond the high-school classroom.

Diploma and portfolio outcomes

Portfolio and Diploma

Students build a powerful portfolio of meaningful academic and non-academic work, personally tailored to their current interests and future plans. Alongside a mastery-based high school diploma, students earn dual enrollment college credits and engage in internships and volunteering.

Virtual cohorts and online campus

Local and Virtual Community

We are a small, focused community supported by a global team of mentors and experts. Through live seminars, workshops and through project-based learning, students use their virtual and local community to create a rich academic experience.

Why Families Choose Barefoot Technology Academy

A High School Designed Around How Your Teen Actually Learns

Project-Based & Portfolio-Driven

Students tackle meaningful, interest-driven projects in STEM, humanities, entrepreneurial, and creative domains. Their work becomes a portfolio that speaks far louder than grades or test scores.

Seminar and Skill Learning

Learning happens through discussion-based seminars and guided project work. Students use computational tools, data analysis, writing, and design to explore complex ideas.

Deep Mentorship

Each student works with a mentor who functions as an academic advisor: guiding research, giving detailed feedback, and helping them refine their thinking and goals.

Undergraduate-Level Mastery

Students demonstrate mastery of clearly defined competencies through portfolios, oral defenses, and deep, sustained work.

Real-World Opportunities

Students pursue opportunities usually reserved for undergraduates: original research, academic competitions, publications, conference presentations, internships, and college-level coursework.

Barefoot Technology Academy is forward-looking. The future of education will be virtual, project-based, and code-centered, and this school provides an opportunity to experience this future without having to wait.

Brian Silverman Playful Invention Company

It's like graduate school for teenagers! I wish my children had had access to this kind of environment when they were in high school.

Community Member

I attribute, in many ways, my passion for computation to Rory. Over the years, he's cultivated an environment of openness that has nurtured not only my own capacity to learn but also the potential of many friends I've made at his programs.

William Student

This school seems like an incredible place for students who value curiosity, who strive to go above and beyond, and want to have a meaningful impact - whether as researchers, entrepreneurs or in any path they choose.
